about the world cultural council

The World Cultural Council (WCC) is an international organization founded in Mexico in the early eighties, its goals are to promote cultural values, goodwill and philanthropy among individuals.

Since 1984 the WCC has held a yearly Award Ceremony granting prizes to outstanding scientists, educators and artists whose breakthroughs in the fields of knowledge, learning and research have contributed positively to the cultural enrichment of mankind.

Each ceremony is held in a different country with a renowned university or academic institute acting as host. The WCC is enthusiastic about this new partnership with the University of Coimbra, especially for its historical background, worldwide reputation and consequential contribution to Portugal. For the first time the WCC’s Award Ceremony will be held at a Portuguese Institution, in the framework of its 730th anniversary celebrations, which will be an excellent setting for recognizing the outstanding achievements of the awardees and the inspiration that they bring.

The “Albert Einstein” World Award of Science was created as a means of recognition and incentive to scientific and technological research and development. It takes into special consideration research which has brought true benefit and wellbeing to mankind. It is awarded annually.

The “José Vasconcelos” World Award of Education has been established as an acknowledgment of those who have the all-important labour of teaching the underlying basis of our present civilization. The prize is awarded every other year.

The relevance and importance of these awards is bolstered by the world-renowned personalities that comprise the jury.
